Janis Berley

Janis Lake Berley, 73, of Prosperity, died Friday, June 19, 2020 at her residence.

Born on August 17, 1946 in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late Joe Edward and Arlene Steffen Lake. Mrs. Berley retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Happy Mountaineers and her Sunday School class.  She loved her family dearly. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's ball games and playing cards with her husband, Don everyday.  She loved sharing childhood stories with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed sitting on her porch with her husband in the evenings and listening to the birds sing. It was one of her favorite places on earth.  She loved shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She was greatly loved and will be missed every day.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Glen Berley; daughters, Mandy Sams and her husband Dave of Dacula, GA and Melisa Livingston and her husband Artie of Prosperity; a brother, Joe “Joey” Lake and his wife Julie of Newberry; grandchildren, Claudia Sams, Don Sams, Jake Sams, Jackson Livingston, and Margaret Livingston. She was predeceased by a brother, Steffen Lake.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. Brett Collins. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 186, Little Mountain, SC 29075

Active pallbearers will be Jay Berley, Paul Fowler, Donald Riley, Doug Riley, Bryon Jeffcoat, and Brian Stiver. Honorary pallbearer will be J.D. Lake.
