Janie Vaughn Boland, born in Newberry County on September 2, 1925 to the late Allen and Nezzie Rivers Vaughn, died April 4, 2016, in Greenwood, SC.

Mrs. Boland retired from the Kendall Company, Oakland Plant, and later served as a Wal-Mart door greeter in Newberry. For many years she served as a volunteer for Project Near through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Mrs. Boland was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church where she enjoyed the Ladies' Bible class.

Mrs. Boland was predeceased by her husband, Fred E. “Jack” Boland; brothers, Colie and Birge Vaughn; and sisters, Christine Cromer and Minnie Myers.

Mrs. Boland is survived by her daughter, Jean, and son-in-law, Wayne Boozer, with whom she had made her home for the past several years. Janie had two wonderful grandchildren, Jason (Candy) Boozer of Simpsonville, and Brantlee (Michael) Lybrand of Travelers Rest. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jacob Lybrand and John Robert Lee. Janie enjoyed talking on the telephone with her nieces and nephews spread out from California, Ohio, Mississippi to South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The families are at their respective homes and will receive friends from 12:30 -1:30 pm at Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church, Meals on Wheels or the charity of ones choice.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Myers, Dell Rowe, Steve Kinard, Clarence Livingston, Edwin Wicker, Shealy Counts, Wayne Perrin and Bob Koch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hayne Boozer, Joe Boozer, Enoch Boozer and Danny “Bo” Cromer.

Heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Oscar Lovelace, Dr. Chip Dixon and all of the staff of Lovelace Family Medicine for their compassionate care.
