Jeffrey William “Jeff” Felker, 46 of Prosperity, SC died suddenly on September 26, 2015. Born on December 11, 1968, he was the chosen one to complete the Felker family where he was the son of the late Donald William and Evelyn Harrington Felker of West Lafayette, Indiana. He was raised in a loving home surrounded by his family in West Lafayette, Indiana. His family moved to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and then moved to Columbia, SC with his parents.
Jeff graduated from Dreher High School in 1987. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June of 1987 and was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he was in the military police. He switched to the Naval Corps where he was a medic. He ended his military career by serving with the 218 th Brigade National Guards in Newberry, SC in April 1994.
He began his medical career as an EMT in Lexington and Saluda counties. With his mother’s encouragement and help, Jeff pursued his dream of becoming a nurse. Jeff graduated from Midlands Technical College with his Associates Degree in Nursing in 2000. He worked at Palmetto Health Baptist, Lexington Medical Center, University at Chapel Hill in the Burn Center, and Lexington Medical Center Extended Care. He was the Nurse Manager over Lexington Trace and Palmetto Lane. He was a passionate, genuine and caring nurse always taking his time with each patient and their families. He loved his job and his fellow co-workers. His zest for life was contagious and he could make anyone smile.
He was enthusiastic about Scouting. He completed several leadership training programs with his wife. He was a proud member of S5-551-13 Wood Badge Class where he was a Bear. He served in many positions with Cub Scout Pack 400 in Prosperity, SC. He currently held the position of Assistant Cub Master.
Jeff and Janna loved the city of Charleston and made many trips there. Jeff proposed to Janna by surprising her with a sunrise proposal at the gazebo at White Point Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Janna Sheppard Felker; son, William Vincent “Vinnie” Felker and his fiancé, Ashley Norman of Lexington, SC; step-sons, Carson Scott Cockrell and Braden Cole Cockrell of the home, whom he loved like his own; brother, Donald Felker and wife Bonnie, of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters, Linda Felker Meekins and husband Bill, of Lothian, Maryland; Shirley Felker Siovaila and husband Ron, of West Lafayette, Indiana, Ruth Felker Kolb, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews; great- nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation is planned for Tuesday from 6-8pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry, SC. The funeral service will be held at Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, SC on Wednesday at 3pm by Pastor Dean Lollis, Pastor Adrienne Fink and Pastor Jason Schafer. Burial with military rites will be held following the service at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Prosperity, SC. The family will receive friends and family after the burial service in the fellowship hall of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127 or to Cub Scout Pack 400, c/o Chad Hawkins, 132 Williams Wood Drive, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Pallbearers will be Donald Felker, Bill Meekins, Ron Siovaila, Jim Carr Jeff Meekins, Cyril Sheppard, Jr., Tim Fletcher and Chad Hawkins
Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, members and staff of Wood Badge S5-551-13, Physicians of Internal Medical Assosiates and the members of the F.I.S.H. Sunday School Class at Wightman UMC.
