Mr. Jerry Laine Richardson, beloved husband to Carolyn Leitzsey Richardson, entered the Church Triumphant while at home on November 29th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 7th, 1939 in Pomaria, SC to the late Mr. Arthur Pearl and Mrs. Clara Boland Richardson. Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years, Carolyn Richardson, son, Barry and his wife Trina Richardson, daughter, Janna Richardson, grandchildren, Meredeth Richardson, Christopher and his wife Amanda Richardson, step-grandchild Amber and her husband Lester Kroeger, III, and step-great-grandchildren Riley and Lester, IV.
He is also survived by one brother, Merrill Richardson, one aunt, Doris “Dot” Graham, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lisa Adams Richardson.
He served in the South Carolina National Guard for eight years. In his career, he worked at the South Carolina Tax Commission retiring as an Assistant Director. Jerry was a charter member of the Pomaria Fire Department and served the community for many years.
As a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomaria, Jerry served faithfully on church councils, as an adult Sunday School Teacher, as a member of the St. Paul Lunch Bunch, and as a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission of St. Paul. For many years, he represented St. Paul Lutheran Church at South Carolina synod conventions.
He also was a delegate for two Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Churchwide Assemblies. He was blessed to serve on the South Carolina Synod Council, Camp Conference and Retreat Board, and on the Board of Visitors of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
Jerry was President of the South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission as well as serving in various other positions. He was chosen as Lutheran Man of the Year for South Carolina in 1991. Serving as the chair of the American Missions committee, he helped promote God’s vision through the growth of congregations in South Carolina.
Jerry enjoyed spending time in God’s creation performing yard work and riding through the woods. As a long-time RV camper, he enjoyed camping with family and friends, especially in Maggie Valley, NC.
He inspired his family, his church, and the larger Christian community through his love and faithfulness in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Risen Lord.
A special thanks is extended to the many friends and family for their kindness and care throughout the years, including Dr. Carroll Pinner, III, the staff of Pinner Family Clinic, Dr. Steven Minter, and the staff of South Carolina Oncology (SCOA).
A Celebration of Life, Death, and Resurrection will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pomaria, SC, December 4th, 2022 at 3:00 pm. Officiating the service will be The Reverend Bishop David Donges, Reverend Gary Brandenburg, and Reverend Amanda G. Richardson. The family will receive friends and loved ones following the service in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.
Active pallbearers are Mr. Gene Baker, Mr. Chad Boland, Mr. Andrew Boozer, Mr. Jeff Fellers, Mr. Maxton King, and Mr. Jerry Lane.
Honorary pallbearers are Reverend Bishop and Mrs. James Aull, Mrs. Carolyn Donges, Mr. and Mrs. John Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Koon, Mr. Larry Kyzer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lunsford, Reverend and Mrs. Brent Nichols, Mrs. Evelyn Ricard, Mrs. Christine Dowd, and all loved ones in attendance at the funeral.
His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” -Matthew 25:23
