Jerry Wofford

Jerry Layton Wofford, 78, of Newberry, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on February 29, 1936, in Newberry he was a son of the late William Clyde and Mary Wofford. He retired from the Palmetto Pallet Company and was a member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Janet Morris and her husband, Cecil of Newberry; a sister, Patty Robinson of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Tom Wofford of Texas, Bobby Wofford of Charlotte, NC; Walt Wofford of Tyler, TX, Mike Wofford of Ocala, FL, and Wayne Wofford of Phoenix, AZ; 6 gradchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and his lifelong friend, Robert Dowd. He was twice married, first to the late Jetty McKinney Wofford and secondly to the late Ernestine Derrick Wofford. He was also predeceased by his sons, Donnie and Tommy Wofford.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 19, 2015 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Floyd Sides. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Newberry Dialysis Center, 2041 Medical Park Drive, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Langford, Christopher Barnett, Joey Werts, Robert Dowd, John Derrick and Paul Derrick.
