Joan Epting Ringer, widow of David B. Ringer, died peacefully at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home on Thursday, November 27, 2014.
She was born on August 31, 1929, to the late Carl and Vadice Lott Epting. Joan's education began in a one room schoolhouse and ended with a degree in 1950 from Newberry College. She taught school at Pomaria and Little Mountain High Schools. She later became Business Office Manager at Newberry County Memorial Hospital for 38 years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Joan was a member of the ELCW, Business and Professional Womens' Club and numerous bridge clubs.
Joan is survived by a son, Steve Ringer of Irmo; a daughter, Jane (Bill) Herbert of Columbia; a sister, Merlee Stuck of Pomaria; a sister-in-law, Adrid Epting of Columbia and many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Aunt Jo.” She was predeceased by her husband and parents, a sister, Carolyn Gavlin and brothers, Darr, Kibler and Donald Epting.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 30, 2014, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. William Stone. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30- 2:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 1505 Wilson Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
The family would like to thank the staff of J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home and Blue Ridge Hospice for their loving care and kindness.
Active pallbearers will be Kenny Stuck, Charles Ringer, Ferd Summer, Charles Chappell, John Fralick and Brian Epting.
