John Bailey Humphries, 92, of Joanna, widower of Gladys Golden Humphries, died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Hospice House of Laurens.
Born on August 15, 1916 in Saluda, he was a son of the late Charles Perry and Mary Ann Warren Humphries. He had served in the Marine Reserves, was a member of Joanna First Baptist Church and was retired from Chapman Mills in Inman.
Surviving are his sons, Kenneth Golden (Leigh) Humphries of Florence and Leland B. (Frances) Humphries of Clinton; a daughter, Sherrel H. (Robert G.) Morris of Nebo, NC; a sister, Sadie Wright of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Col. James R. Ayers, Amy Clark, Kenneth G. Humphries, Jr., Tonya Denise Humphries, Jon R. Ayers, William P. Humphries and Melinda Woodard; seven great-grandchildren and a special friend, Ronald Tucker.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Alan Todd. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Laurens, 1304 Springdale Drive, Clinton, SC 29325.
