John Sox

John Andrew Sox, age 66, of Prosperity, was called home to be with his Lord January 12, 2014. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. John was born July 15, 1947, the son of the late Marion Woodrow Sox and Eddie Metz Sox.

He was part owner of Sox Brothers Fence Erectors and later retired from the South Carolina Highway Department. He was an active member of Newberry First Baptist Church serving as deacon and on numerous committees.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Janice Sloan Sox; a daughter, Karen (Marc) McCollough of Winston Salem, NC; a son, Jason (Alice) Sox of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Connor, and Ayla; sister, Ina Edens of Chapin and brother, Enoch Sox of West Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Ross Marion. Interment will be in Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00- 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Bus Fund, 1039 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Baumgardner, Joe Bishop, Sam Broad, Jim Edwards, Gordon Sparks and Bobby Wilson.
