Johnnie Newell Son, 71, of Little Mountain, died Monday, September 8, 2014, at his home.
Born on May 26, 1943, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Euston and Mamie Shealy Son. He was retired from McCrory Construction as a Project Superintendent where he was employed for 14 years. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church and a former church council member.
Johnnie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, raising quail and especially loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Wanda Rawls Son, two daughters, Johnette Ballentine (Dennis) and Alison Fulmer (David) both of Little Mountain, grandchildren, Austin Fulmer, Andrew Ballentine, Chris Fulmer, Erin Ballentine, and Danielle Ballentine; sisters, Ouida Booth, Martha Smith, Annie Stoudemire and Darlene Mason. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty O'Shields Reames and a brother, J.D. “Rabbit” Son.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Stoudemayer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm Wednesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 816 Mt. Pallbearers will be Rickie McKie, Mac McKie, Henry Glenn, Russell Hawkins, Allen O'Shields and Michael Livingston.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Council and the Alpha Sunday School Class.
