Jon McConnell

Jon Thomas McConnell, 72, of Newberry, widower of Helen Robertson McConnell, died Saturday, August 25, 2012, at White Oak Manor.

Born on January 12, 1940, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Frank Harris and Connie Maddox McConnell. Mr. McConnell was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired accountant and security guard. He was an active member of College Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by sons, Jon (Renee) Walter McConnell of Victor, NY, Nathan (Julie) Thomas McConnell of South Port, NC, James (Heather) Harris McConnell of Belmont, NC and Jonathan Andrew McConnell of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Venira “Sal” (Joe) Welborn of Newberry; grandchildren, Linsey, Alex, Victoria, Madelyn and Talan. He was predeceased a brother, Harris “Rooster” Oliver McConnell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2012, at College Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Chad Ashby. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00- 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to College Street Baptist Church, 3240 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be B.J. Cotchcroft, Bart Cotchcroft, Craig Cromer, Kenton Lown, Buddy McConnell and Joe McConnell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeannie Edwards, Clyde Suber, Raymond Morris, Tommy Shealy and members of the Mary Warren Sunday School Class.
