Joyce P. Bouknight

Joyce Pitts Bouknight, 85, of Newberry, widow of Legrande Bouknight, died July 14, 2016 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 6, 1931 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Hugh F. and Helen Williams Pitts. She was a member of Bush River Baptist Church where she was a member of the Martha Franks Sunday School Class and the Joyful Hearts. She loved woodworking, and for many years she would teach crafts during Bible School. She loved her family dearly and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Tim Bouknight and wife Elaine of Newberry and Stan Bouknight of Newberry; a sister, Gloria Brehmer of Kinards; grandchildren, Wesley Bouknight and wife Tiffany and Jason Bouknight and wife Meagan. She was predeceased by brothers, Marion Pitts, Vernon Pitts, and Jim Pitts; and sisters, Frances Martin and Lila Martin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Bush River Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Martin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday evening at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bush River Baptist Church, 8936 Bush River Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pall bearers will be Mike Brehmer, Henry Brehmer, Steve Brehmer, Tony Pitts, James Bouknight, Gary Bouknight, Mike Kinard, Carl Kinard, Jerry Kinard, and Charlie Rogers.

Honorary pall bearers will be the Martha Franks Sunday School Class.
