Miss Julia Kate Sease, 102, of Newberry, died Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Springfield Place.
Born on September 25, 1912, in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late L. Hamp Sease, Sr. and Bittie Ruff Sease. She graduated from St. Philip's High School in 1929 and then obtained her bachelor degree from Newberry College in 1933. She later did graduate work at the University of South Carolina. She retired after 39 years as an educator having taught in the Jolly Street and Pomaria Schools. Miss Sease was a member of the Newberry County Retired Teachers Association.
She was the oldest member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School, was a former choir member, served as Vacation Bible School director, was a founding member of the Luther League, served on various church committees, was involved with the Joy Fellowship and was a life member of WELCA, and a member of the Adult B Sunday School Class where she was a past president and class pianist.
Miss Sease is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, D. Govan Sease, Fannie Mae Sease, Elizabeth S. Lominick, Luther H. Sease, Jr., Sadie S. Setzler and Thomas E. Sease, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick and Rev. Bill Ebener. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the church or the church cemetery fund, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be William Monroe, Charles Ringer, Morgan Sease David Sease, Ernie Sease, Joe Sease, Tommy Sease and Brian Hare.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joy Fellowship, Adult B. Sunday School Class, Frankie Sease, Gregg Hare, Billy Monroe, John Ringer, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Henry Ruff, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. Bright Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Richardson, Stocky Richardson, Keith Wicker, Clara Sue Waites, Jane L. Ringer, Dianne Lominick, the staff of Springfield Place, Tri County Hospice and Angel Care.
She cherished all of her former students and, though too vast in number to reserve special seating, she wanted each one to know that your presence at her service will be a high honor.
