Junius Gilbert Long, 88, of Pomaria, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Palmetto Health Richland.
Born on May 4, 1923, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Junius G. and Anna Bundrick Long. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired after 30 years from Fort Jackson. Mr. Long was a life-long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Golden Agers and a former councilman. He was a member of Pomaria Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rebecca Lindler Long; sons, James G. (Judy) Long of Pomaria, Caroll H. (Debra) Long of Newberry and Steven W. Long and his companion, Brenda Bailess of Pomaria; a daughter, Linda (George David) Wedaman of Pomaria; grandchildren, Tammy L. (Chad) Morris, Wendy L. (Kevin) Shealy, Jonathan Wedaman, Justin (Danielle) Long and Stacie Long and great-grandchildren, Sam and Amanda Morris, Morgan and Jennifer Shealy and Riley Long. Mr. Long was predeceased by his sisters, Mary L. Kinard, Essie Livingston, Georgia Lee Livingston, Virginia Livingston and Catherine L. Dennis.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kathy Harris and Rev. Randy Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
