Karen Hunter

Karen Hunter, 51, of Prosperity, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her residence.

Born on March 30, 1962, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of Ray and Elizabeth Shealy Hunter. She completed Newberry County Schools in special education. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 24 for 46 years and the 40 & 8 Societe de Femme for many years. Karen was an active volunteer at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home and the Lowman Home for many years. She enjoyed line dancing. She loved people and helping them whenever and however she could.

Ms. Hunter is survived by her parents, Ray and Elizabeth Hunter; a sister, Sheila (Kenneth) Jones of Columbia; an aunt, Suzette (Darr) Frick of Chapin as well as numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Eric Fink. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Dawkins, Emmett Wicker, James Long, Mac Vaughn, Craig Farr and Moses Rembert.
