Kay Cromer Slice

Kay Cromer Slice, 70, wife for 52 years of Gordon W. Slice, was born in Charleston County on August 1, 1952, and passed away at her home in Pomaria on Monday, January 2, 2023.

She was chosen by and reared in Pomaria by the late Hagood and Dorothy Hendrix Cromer.

Mrs. Slice worked in textiles and finished her career doing what she loved – cooking for others- as a lunchroom attendant in the Newberry County Schools.

In addition to her husband, Gordon Slice, she is survived by her daughter, Donna Kay Koon of Chapin and her son, Travis (Jennifer) Slice of Prosperity. She is also survived by her joy in life, her grandchildren, Alexandra and Peyton (Curtis Boland) Koon, Taylor and Jake Slice. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Debbie (Danny) Graham, sisters-in-law, Denise Porter and Janice Roper, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased in addition to her parents by her in-laws, Jake and Dorothy Slice and brothers-in-law, Jr. Roper and Byron Slice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. Burial will follow in Enoree Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel.

Active pallbearers will be Steven Cromer, Curtis Boland, Buddy Summer, Lee Turner, Dan Graham and Jack Foster.

Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor and Jake Slice.

Her very special “paw” bearer will be her companion Dale.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Pomaria Rescue Squad, Po Box 192, Pomaria, SC 29126 or Cross Point Church, PO Box 1171, Newberry, SC 29108.

The family requests casual dress for those attending the funeral, and for those wishing to visit, the family will be at the home of Mama Kay.
