Kenneth "Kent" Sligh

Kenneth “Kent” Wayne Sligh, Sr., 70, of Newberry, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at his residence.

Born on February 11, 1946, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Robert Leroy and Willie Mae Wicker Sligh. He is a graduate of Newberry High School and attended Columbia Commercial College. Mr. Sligh served in the US Army and the S.C. National Guard. He worked at K Wood of Joanna and retired from Quality Wood Recycling. After retiring he enjoyed metal working and woodworking and his classic cars.

He was first married to Debbie Ann Fowler and from that union produced two children, Tracy Ann (John) Bostic and Kenneth W. Sligh, Jr.. For the past 20 years he has been married to Arlene Elaine Anderson Allen Sligh who has two sons, Lawrence A. (Heather) Allen and Torrey Lee (Kim) Allen. He is also survived by siblings, Barbara (Olin) Glymph, David L. Sligh, Richard A. (JoAnn) Sligh, Rogers D. (Margie) Sligh and Debra (Caroll) Long and step-grandchildren, Caitlin, Matthew, Allison, Evan and Harleyann Allen and Stephen Zahornacky.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 30, 2016, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 352, Newberry, SC or Crosspoint Church, 1523 Trent Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
