Kyong "Tina" Yi

Kyong Suk “Tina” Yi, 83, went home to be with her Lord on August 12, 2020 at the home of her son, Rev. Soku “Seth” Yi. Tina was born on September 15, 1936 to Un Chan and Son Yo Ko in South Hwanghae Province, North Korea. She was the fifth of ten children. At the age of ten, her family sought refuge in South Korea to escape communist persecution. Tina was married to Tae Yong Yi, who passed away in 1985. She was a resident of Springfield Place in Newberry since January 2019. Prior to moving to Newberry, she lived in Raleigh, NC since 1977.

She is survived by her sisters, Chong Suk Ko, Hyon Suk “Lena” Ko Spencer, Un Suk Ko, Sukie Handy; her brothers, Chong Nam Ko, and Sung Nam Ko; her children, Yon Ae Chong (Won), Jade Tsao (Bill), Alex Brantley (Chris), and Soku Yi (Allison); and her grandchildren, Justin and Tommy Tsao, Blythe and Sophie Brantley, and Hannah, Caleb (Michaela), Joseph, Noah, Abigail, and Elizabeth Yi.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newberry by the Rev. Dr. Mark Ross. Burial will follow at 4:00 pm at the Raleigh Memorial Gardens in Raleigh, NC, by the Rev. Dong-gap Choi.
