Local singer and song writer Larry E. Newman, Sr. 78, of Silverstreet, son of the late John B. and Doris Sharpe Newman, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Sunday, February 7, 2021.
He was born on April 1, 1942, in Camden. Larry was retired from construction work where he was a sheet metal worker, and continued to work at home building a magical village for his family and friends to enjoy. He was not an idle man. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for his family and friends as well. He played at the Newberry Opera House Summer Concerts for three years.
Larry is survived by his wife, Trish Brown Newman; his children, Pam (Jerry) Smith, Sherry Cannella, Tony Newman, Sonya Newman, Hope McFadden, Jesse (Jennifer) Yocum and Robin (Joey) Lucas; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Johnny Newman and a sister, Janice (Greg) Smith. Larry was predeceased in addition to his parents, his first wife, Sarah Hendrix Newman, his son, Larry E. Newman, Jr. and granddaughter, Mandy Jeffers.
He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Will Brown. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Jesse Yocum, Joey Lucas, Cody Branham, Josh Cannella, Chase McFadden, Dustin McFadden and Greg Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Kemp, Ray Woodward, Edward Wood, Allen Stephens, Jr., Johnny Rabon and John Newman.
Due to COVID 19 everyone is reminded of social distancing requirements and masks are encouraged.
