With deepest sorrow, we are saddened over the loss of John Lawrence “Larry” Hazel, age 65 our most beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, Godfather and friend who passed away to his new Heavenly Home on Sunday, December 12, 2021.
Those who knew Larry even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. We know Larry is loved in Heaven as he was here on earth by his parents, John Shepperd “Shep” Hazel and Alice Ruth Close Hazel.
Larry and Robbiette met and had their first date, July 9, 1976. Larry later asked Robbiette's father for her hand in marriage and they were united as husband and wife on March 22, 1980. They were unable to have children of their own, but he enjoyed the children of others of which one was his Goddaughter, Chloe' Lyn Epting.
Larry will be missed everyday by loving wife and caregiver, Robbiette Roberts Hazel. He had one sister, Lanette Hazel Parnell and husband, Ernie. He had one brother, James Roy “Jimmy” Hazel and wife, Karon. Sister-in-law, Janice Amick Anderson and husband, Bill. Nephews, Justin Parnell, Jeremy Parnell and wife, Tracy, Joshua Parnell and wife, April, James Hazel and wife, Brittany and niece, Alicia Hazel Overstreet and husband, Matthew and niece, Morgan Anderson Bradham and husband, Derrick. Many great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great nephews, great-great nieces and cousins and friends.
Larry loved the Lord and was a Christian and member of First Baptist Church of Newberry. He worked many years as a mechanic with Stokes-Trainor GM Dealership and his last years as a cashier with Publix Super Market where he loved and enjoyed his coworkers and customers.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 18, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Newberry conducted by Dr. Albert Allen and Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Visitation will begin after the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to First Baptist church of Newberry Relocation Fund, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or a charity of one's choice. Masks will be optional for those sitting in the sanctuary and for those sitting in the overflow room will be required to wear a mask.
