Laura Bess

Laura Ruth “Foofy” Bess, 69, of Little Mountain, passed away on December 16, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland surrounded by her family.

Born in Gassaway, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Harry C. Shomo and Katherine Boone Flanagan. She was an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She worked her entire life to provide for her family. She was a talented artist and lover of animals. She loved feeding and watching the animals that would come to her yard to eat.

She is survived by her husband, David Bess; daughters, Tonda (Mike) Stauffer of Ohio and Nichole Belknap of Chapin; a step-son, David (Leah) Bess II of North Carolina; her younger twin brother, Loyd (Kim) Shomo of Morgantown, West Virginia; sisters, Brenda Wood of Craigsville, West Virginia and Linda (Duke) Cowell of Richwood, West Virginia; grandchildren, Lindy (Nick) Jessee, Kylie Stauffer, and Sydney Bess.

A private graveside service will be held in Sugar Creek Cemetery in Gassaway, West Virginia at a later date.
