Laura Mae Winget Ridgill

Laura Mae Winget Ridgill, 76, of 411 Holloway Street, Pomaria, SC quietly passed away at home on 29 December 2009 after a brief illness.
Born 18 May 1933 in Mulkeytown, Illinois, she was the youngest child of the late William and Sophie (Bandy) Winget. Mrs. Ridgill, co-owner (retired) of Central Industrial Supply Company was an advocate for responsible government and involved in numerous civic and political organizations. She served as past President of the Columbia Woman’s Club, past President and Secretary Treasurer of Women in Construction and was elected and served three terms as Mayor of Pomaria, SC after moving with her family from Columbia, SC. In addition, she served most recently as Vice-President of Citizens for Responsive Government working tirelessly to help defeat the rezoning of land for the purposes of a controversial landfill in her community. Mrs. Ridgill was an avid gardener and bridge enthusiast. She was a member of 32 years of the Pomaria Bridge Club where she developed and nurtured a network of loving lifelong friends.
Mrs. Ridgill is predeceased by her husband of 50 years Robert O. Ridgill, two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ridgill Chandler of Columbia, Denise Ridgill Fowler of Spartanburg, SC, and four grandchildren: Jared Miller, Laura Grace Andrews Arecco (Edward Arecco), Jonathan Murray and Ashlee Fowler. In addition she is survived by her beloved nephew William (Bill) Winget and his wife, Marva of Mulkeytown, IL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 2 January at 11:00am at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry, SC. A private burial for the immediate family will be held later that afternoon at the family cemetery in Manning, SC.
The family will be at home at 411 Holloway Street, Pomaria, SC from 4-7pm Friday, 1 January. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Helen Beebe, 181 Tailers Trail, Leesville, SC 29070.
