Lewie Euman Meetze, of Newberry, was born on April 4, 1919 and died April 4, 2013, his 94 th birthday, at J. F. Hawkins Health Care.

Born in Irmo, he was the son of the late Thomas Pinkney and Blanche Louise Eargle Meetze. He was retired civil service employee of Fort Jackson and was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church of Columbia. Mr. Meetze was an avid gardner who delighted in sharing with friends and family.

He is survived a son, John T. (Sherry) Meetze of Camden; daughter, Joan (Ed) Kyzer of Newberry; sisters, Eula M. Lowman and Betty M. (Doug) Walker both of Irmo; daughters-in-law, Jo Ann S. Ellisor of Newberry and Betty Jo D. Ellisor of Leesville; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Meetze was predeceased by two wives, Elsie E. Meetze and Catherine C. Meetze, a daughter, Patricia M. Harrington, a sister, Monnie M. Parks, a brother, Elzie T. Meetze and a grandson, Scott Singley.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Cresent Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church, 230 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210 or the charity of one's choice.

Active pallbearers will be Art Singley, Kent Singley, Clarke Kyzer, Ralph Riddle, Todd Ellisor, Clayton Ellisor, Lane Maness, Jeremy Hendricks, Susan E. Hendricks and Kelli Maness.
