John Linwood “Lindy” Richardson, 82, of Prosperity died Friday, April 15, 2016.
Born on July 2, 1933 in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Thomas Leo and Veta Kibler Richardson. He was a graduate of Newberry College and was a retired teacher and coach at Mid-Carolina High School. He coached baseball, football, basketball, track, and golf. Lindy was the only coach in the history of Mid-Carolina High School to win conference championships in three different sports. He also served as athletic director for a number of years. He was a United States Air Force veteran and served in the Army National Guard for a combined total of 40 years of service. He was a member of the S.C. State Constables. He served as Captain of Districts 1, 2,and 7. He was a member of the S.C. State Law Enforcement Officers Association and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher since 1967. He also served on church council, and he was a member of the Lutheran Men. He was a member of the Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 and served as Past Master and Secretary.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Pat Taylor Richardson; sons, Dean Richardson and Jimmy (Robin) Richardson both of Prosperity; a sister, Marzelle Wiggers of Columbia; and a granddaughter, Taylor Richardson. He was predeceased by a sister, Nora Counts and by brothers William Richardson and Thomas Leon Richardson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2496 S.C. Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
Active pallbearers will be Donnie Longshore, Johnny Counts, Michael Connelly , Jay Koon, Danny Richardson, and Danny Ricard.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Pairs and Spares Sunday School class, Randall Koon, Jerry Richardson, and Tommy Kinard.
The family would like to ask his former baseball players to serve as honorary escorts.
