Mary Lois Webster Samuel, 89, of Newberry, widow of Walter L. Samuel, died Thursday, October 4, 2013, at her residence.
Born on August 29, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Mary Bagenstase Webster. Mrs. Samuel was retired from the Pennsville, NJ school district as a music teacher. She was a member of Aveleigh Fellowship of Presbyterians. She was a female vocalist for Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. She was the only vocalist to get a standing ovation of the opening of the New Jersey State Legislature for her rendition of the Lord's Prayer.
She is survived by a son, John Michael (Cris) Samuel of Irmo; grandchildren, Erin Forensic and Benjamin Samuel; step-grandchildren, Dawn Bickley and John Martin; great-grandchildren, Caleb Forensic and Jeremy Samuel. She was predeceased by a son, Alfred Lee Samuel.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Aveleigh Fellowship of Presbyterians by the Rev. Dr.Mitch VanMetre. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Fellowship of Presbyterians, 1211 Calhoun Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
