Louis Walter Neiger, 75, of Newberry, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland.
Born on October 21, 1949, in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late Ira Fred and Clara Lelia Hunter Neiger. Mr. Neiger was a Navy veteran. He was a retired Insurance Agent and a member of First Baptist Church.
Louis tried to be a good example of a Christian to everybody. He took a real interest in people, and always took time for people.
He made life an adventure for his kids and helped build them into strong individuals, encouraging them to follow Christ. Lou set a great example to "lay it on the line" for family.
Lou could build just about anything, and he could fix all kinds of things. Over his years living in Newberry, Lou and his family renovated and finished restoring a 180-year-old home. He always had a project or two going; and in his pocket, there was usually a list of his future projects.
Lou was very politically active, and he and his family were involved in many local, state, and federal campaigns over the years. The insight, advice, and wisdom that Lou shared with candidates and elected officials made a notable difference in many important offices and campaigns.
He was a guiding and encouraging voice in many, many lives, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Ann Bechthold Neiger; sons, Michael J. Neiger, Jonathan D. Neiger, Brian E. Neiger, Matthew I. Neiger and Joshua C. Neiger; daughters, Tiffany N. Charpentier, Heather N. Murray, Sara D. Cummins, Rachel E. Baron, Andrea V. Kissling, Amber N. Skoczelak and Abigail L. Ndiaye a brother, Willard Neiger; forty-seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. . He was predeceased by a son, Mark Neiger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Newberry by the Rev. Dr. Gary Ledbetter. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Thursday from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm.
