Mabel H. Slaton

Mabel Hiller Slaton, 87, of Newberry, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on January 14, 1925, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Leland and Nora Ammons Hiller. Mrs. Slaton worked for Wertz Music for a number of years and was the retired owner of Home Furniture. She was a member of Mayer Memorial Lutheran Church where she was a former choir member.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lin Slaton; grandchildren, Edward R. Slaton, Dalton Slaton and Shanna J. Slaton; a great-granddaughter, Izabella J. Slaton and a daughter-in-law, Bobbie Jo Slaton. Mrs. Slaton was predeceased by a son, Lin Rosson (Ross) Slaton, brothers, George (Bubber) Hiller and Walter Leland Hiller, sisters, Cleo Morris, Essie Mae Ammons and Anna Hiller King.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2012, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home by the Rev. Eddie Duncan. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Buchanan, Janet Long, Jana Paschal, Sue Jaeger, Deanna Linowski, Milton Shealy, John Roche, Robbie Hunter, Robyn Minick, Brantlee Dennis, Kirk Kohler and John Henry Caldwell, Jr..
