Daisy Manona “Nonie” Hawkins Hendrix, 91, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Springfield Place, Newberry.

Born in Newberry County on November 29, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Mark Schumpert “Toad” and Daisy Rosanna Nichols Hawkins.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Prosperity and a member of the Lula Hunter Circle. She loved her flowers, was an exceptional seamstress, an outstanding cook, and the most loving mother and grandmother to all her children and grandchildren.

Nonie was a loving and devoted wife for 71½ years to her late husband, Homer O. Hendrix. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of six sisters and five brothers who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara (Valjean) Matthews of Prosperity and two sons, Richard (Margaret) Hendrix and Von (Jean) Hendrix of Prosperity; seven grandchildren, Russell (Barbara) Hendrix, Wanda M. (Bobby) Taylor, Sharon H. Black, Stephen (Felicity) Hendrix, Anthony (Sebrena) Matthews, Ricky (Ellen) Hendrix, and Donna M. Eichstaedt; eleven great-grandchildren, Brandon Koon, Brian Koon, Lesley Taylor, Trent Black, Jared Black, Matthew Hendrix, Lilyann Hendrix, Beckham-Park Hendrix, Meagan Matthews, Mallory Matthews, and Emily Eichstaedt; three step great-grandchildren, Jennifer Still, Brad Summer, and Clay Taylor; two great-great-granddaughters, Halle and Hayden Koon and two step great-great granddaughters, Abigail and Riley Still; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall Fund, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
