Margaret Thompson Wicker Pruitt, 92, of Pomaria, widow of Oliver S. Pruitt, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Springfield Place.

Born on May 17, 1918, in Pomaria she was a daughter of the late Henry Monroe and Lillian Samantha Eargle Wicker. Margaret was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Graniteville for many years and subsequently Redeemer Lutheran Church in Augusta prior to returning to Newberry County and to her home church St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Pomaria. She loved each of the churches she attended. As a child, she was baptized by Rev. Senter and later confirmed at St. Matthews in Pomaria.

She was honored to be a member of the Daughters of America in which she served as president, councilor, and staff leader. She was entertainment chair for the Daughters of America for many years. She had a great appreciation for the patriotism in our country and the service of our forefathers and her family members who served. She was employed by the Graniteville Company and was a member of the Graniteville Leisure Club where she enjoyed the camaraderie of many good friends.

She is survived by an extended family and many nieces and nephews that she adored.

She was predeceased by brothers; William Owens Wicker, John Henry Wicker, Thomas Lake Wicker, and Charles Homer Wicker; sisters, Annie E. Wicker, Ida Wicker Cromer, Louise Wicker Rudisill, May Wicker Fowler, Edna Wicker Werts, Elvira E. Wicker, and a unnamed sister who died at birth.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 170, Pomaria, SC 29126.

Active pall bearers will be Steven Cromer, Brad Ruff, Jason Ruff, Paul Werts, Ernest Shealy, and Dan McGlohorn.
