Margaret Shirley Weakley Eader ,89, died on August 5, 2014. She was the daughter of Edna G. Roberts Weakley and Jacob 0. Weakley. She was born in Shookstown, Maryland on October 15, 1924.
She was the widow of the late Cdr. Blaine E. Eader (USN Ret. ) whom she married immediately before he was sent to fight in the Pacific during World War II. During his absence she enrolled in Woodberry College in California, worked in a civilian capacity at Fort Meade, Maryland, and was affiliated with Western Union and the Frederick, Maryland Tax Assessor's Office. When her husband returned, she joined him and assumed her position as a Naval officer 's wife as he continued his career in the US Navy . Upon his retirement from active duty they moved twice more once to Purdue University where he obtained an advanced degree and finally, in 1962, to Newberry, South Carolina where he joined the faculty of Newberry College. While in Newberry she was active in the garden club serving as president at one time. In addition to flower arranging she also enjoyed crafting and decorating. She remained in Newberry until a fall at her home in 2012 required her to have more care. She moved to Agape Senior in West Columbia, SC.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Eader Derrick-Chong (Rev. Yu-Fong Chong) of Columbia, SC, her two grandchildren William H. Derrick, Jr. (Tammy) of Ada, Michigan and Dr. Jennifer L. Derrick (Justin Padgett} of Mankato, Minnesota, and her two great grandchildren William H. Derrick III and Lynlee N. Derrick of Ada, Michigan . She is also survived by three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren in California : Allan Chong (Katie) and their daughters Lauren and Sophie of San Carlos, Bryan Chong (Camille) and their son River of Tiburon, and Ruth Rafalovich (Todd) of San Mateo. Additionally she is survived by her brother, Robert Eader (Barbara), of Frederick, Maryland and sister, Susan England (Clifford) of Shady Grove, Oklahoma and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters : Lillian Burrier and brother-in-law Lester Burrier of Thurmont, Maryland, Pauline Eader of Sykesville, Maryland,Pearl Eader of Mt. Pleasant, Maryland and also her brothers Granison Eader and his wife MaryAnn of Buckeye, West Virginia , Clifford Eader and his wife Shirley of Mount Pleasant, Maryland, Bernard Eader (Donna) of Frederick, Maryland and Wallace Weakley of Washington, D.C.
The family would like to thank the staff at Agape Senior in West Columbia for the excellent care they have provided and her physicians who have cared for her over the years. We wish to especially thank Dr. M .C. Marshall and his nurse Allison, Dr. James Suber, and Julie Welch. APRN.
Arrangements are being handled by Mcswain-Evans Funeral Home in Newberry, South Carolina . She will be inurned next to her husband at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis, Maryland at a later date. Donations may be made to Newberry College or to the charity of one's choice .
