Marguerite Huckaby Havird, 92, of Silverstreet, died peacefully in her home on August 26, 2013.

Born January 5, 1921 in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late William Cary and Lois Watson Huckaby. She was a 1941 graduate of Lander College and enjoyed a 39 year long teaching career in Union, Saluda, and Newberry County Schools. After retiring, she substitute taught for another 18 years. Mrs. Havird was a member of the SC Retired Teachers' Association, Newberry County Teachers' Associations, and SCFCL (Home Demonstration Club.) She was a long time member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church serving as organist for 30 years, a member of the WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America), and the Elsie P. Nichols Sunday School Class. She also served her community as Secretary of the Town of Silverstreet for many years.

Mrs. Havird was predeceased by her husband, Jerome F. Havird, Sr. She is survived by her son, Jerome F. (Jerry) Havird, Jr. and his wife Janice; two granddaughters, Karen Bedenbaugh Smith and her husband Charles, and Brandy Havird Wix and her husband Johnnie; great-grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Alexandra Smith, Cherokee Wix, Kamden Wix, Karsen Wix, and Griffin Wix; a great-great-grandson, Walker Hayden Dorrah; 7 nephews and and close friend, Anna Wise.

The family would like to thank the staff of Palmetto Health Hospice, the staff of Springfield Place, Evelyn Chalmers, April Wix, Diane Long, and Pam Hill for their love and care.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Harry Crout. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at her residence, 149 Marguerite Drive and they will receiive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Men in Mission Gift Fund, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
