Marian Sligh Bowers

Marian Louise Sligh Bowers, 91, of Prosperity, widow of Oscar Wheeler Bowers, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, at her home.

Born on November 2, 1932, in Silverstreet, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Claude Sligh, Sr. and Elizabeth Waters Sligh. Mrs. Bowers retired as the lunchroom manager at Rikard Elementary. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she was in the Ladies Fellowship Class, the United Methodist Women and the Naomi Ruth Circle.

She is survived by sons, Douglas A. (Cleo) Bowers and George D. (Tina) Bowers both of Prosperity; a daughter-in-law, Karen Bowers of Prosperity and eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bowers was predeceased by a son, Mark Bowers, a daughter, Amy Bowers and her siblings, Margaret S. Shealy, Audrey S. Zobel Agnew, Frank “Buddy” Sligh, Charles Edward Sligh, John Robert “Bobby” Sligh, Ray Sligh, Thomas Claude Sligh, Jr. and Lewis F. Sligh.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. R.T. Bowling. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm.

The family will receive friends in the church family life center following the service.

Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Sligh, Tommy Zobel, Al Shealy, Steve Shealy, Tony Chapman and Casey Chapman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sara Ruff, Pauline Harmon and Joanne Newman.
