Lexington, SC. Memorial Service for Mark E. Padgett, 85, will be held January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Dunn’s Chapel of South Congaree, 281 Chapel Rd. West Columbia, SC 29172 with Rev. Tom Atten officiating. A repast will follow the service at the home of Wayne and Ann Clark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dunn’s Chapel Church, 281 Chapel Rd. W. Cola, SC 29172.
After a brief illness, Mr. Padgett passed away December 15, 2014, at Lexington Medical Center and was inurned, December 19, 2014, at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Born in Newberry, SC on November 16, 1929, Mark was the only child of the late Osborne and Annie Mae Padgett. He was a 1947 graduate of Newberry High School. A born educator, while still in high school, Mark conducted “school” for the neighborhood children on a make shift blackboard he created on the side of his parents garage. He also studied at Newberry College, Bob Jones University, and UC Berkeley. A creative genius, educator, avid reader, and classical music enthusiast, Mark was a Technical /Educational Communications Director for Zotos International, INC. where he wrote copy and named their hair care products line, Bain de Terre. He also named a haircutting system, Prismatics. Mark was also contributing author of haircare textbooks and authored several individual books on this subject. During his working years, Mark traveled extensively throughout the US, Europe, Japan, and Mexico conducting professional development classes. Mark taught public speaking and proofed research papers for individuals as well as acting as a consultant for several professional beauty industries. He was fondly remembered by one colleague as a wonderful teacher with a dry, yet razor sharp wit. He served as correspondent for the Lexington Chronicle “Around “South Congaree and Pineridge”. He also served as a trained adult Literacy Coach and was an avid animal lover. He was Episcopalian by faith.
Surviving are cousins of the Newberry and Batesburg area, as well as a first cousin, Dot Adams of Sumter, SC. He is also survived by friends Ann and Wayne Clark and Sandy Greer of South Congaree, (West Columbia) SC as well as his feline companions, “The Boys”- Karson, Kelley, and Kasey.
Mark’s friends would like to personally thank Pastor Tom Atten of Dunn’s Chapel and Dunn’s Chapel Church for their compassionate care and concern given Mark during his final days. Also a special thanks to Pete Simpson of McSwain – Evans Funeral Home, Newberry, SC for his kind consideration and assistance during these difficult times.
