Mark Smith

James Mark Smith, 82, of Newberry, died Saturday, December 25, 2010, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on August 14, 1928, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late John William and Sadie Fowler Smith. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and the retired owner of Smith Brothers Logging, Inc. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and a former member of the Church Council.

Surviving are his wife, Mathilde Suber Smith; two sons, James Dale (Rita) Smith of Lexington and Vernon Mark Smith of Pomaria; two brothers, Harold Smith and Raymond Smith, both of Pomaria, and two sisters, Inez Smith Mills of Lancaster and Dollie Smith Hallman of West Columbia. Mr. Smith was predeceased by a daughter, Miriam Smith; brothers William Smith, Thomas Smith, and Gary Lee Smith; and a sister, Georgia Smith Goodlett.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, December 27, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that those desiring may make memorials to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, P.O. Box 382, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Active Pallbearers will be David Goodlett, Melvin Smith, Brian Smith, Chris Smith, Michael Hallman, Keith Smith, and Ronnie Mills.
