Martha Cockrell Warren, 82, of Newberry, widow of Horace Ray Warren, died Friday, February 25, 2011 at White Oak Manor.

Born in Prosperity on September 15, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Jason and Lucille Wise Cockrell. She retired from White Oak Manor of Newberry and Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home. She also worked at McCroy Five and Ten for many years. She was a former member of Colony Lutheran Church and was a present member of College Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mary Warren Sunday School Class. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by daughters, Elaine W. (Tom) Guy of Newberry, Shirley W. Taylor and Charles Dyer of Newberry; a son, Craig Warren of Lexington; grandchildren, Renee (Dean) Harmon, Brian (Marla) Moran, and Britt Taylor and Shawn Guyton; great-grandchildren, Bethany Long, Jensen Moran, Nichole Harmon, Brian Moran, Jr., Landon Taylor, and Jacob Harmon; a sister-in-law, Lola Cockrell Lowe and a brother-in-law, Furman Warren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, John Wesley Cockrell and Harold Cockrell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011, at College Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Ferrell and Rev. Jerry Trantham. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Springdale section. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family is at the residence of Shirley Taylor, 144 Doe Road, Newberry. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 110, Columbia, SC 29204 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3225 Sunset Blvd, Suite 100, West Columbia, SC 29169.

Active pall bearers will be Brian Moran, Sr., Freddy Cockrell, Larry Wise, Dean Harmon, Edward Warren, and Shawn Guyton.

Honorary pall bearers will be the staff of White Oak Manor Nursing Home, Landen Taylor, Jacob Harmon, Dr. Michael Bernardo, Dr. Murrell, Mrs. Donzell Swittenburg, and Tri County Hospice.
