Marvin Sampson Lester, 93, of Newberry, widower of Roselean Epting Lester, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on August 29, 1917, in Prosperity, he was a son of the late George P. and Eva Nichols Lester. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. He served as a radioman in the Navy. Mr. Lester was a self-employed merchant and owned and operated Lester’s Store for many years. He was a member of Silvertreet Lutheran Church.
He is survived by daughters, Brenda Lester and Donna Lester both of Newberry and a sister, Ruby Nell Shealy of Spartanburg.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Carl Lester and George P. Lester.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Harry Crout. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
Active pallbearers are John Epting, Leland Epting, Jr., Edwin Epting, Von Metts, Johnny Lindsay, Raymond Reynolds, Dr. Roger Shealy and Ed Young.
