Marvin Edward “Governor” Bouknight, 83 of Newberry died Saturday, November 20, 2010.
Born on January 9, 1927, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Jim and Viola Cromer Bouknight. He was a WWII Army Veteran and retired from Kendall Mills, Georgia Pacific, and the Newberry County Sheriffs Department. He was a former State Constable and pilot. Mr. Bouknight attended Glenn Street Baptist Church, was a member of Amity Lodge 87, and a former volunteer firefighter.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Bedenbaugh Bouknight; a son, Kenneth Edward Bouknight and his wife Debra of Pomaria, a granddaughter, Dawn Bouknight; great-grandchildren, April Michelle Richardson, Timothy Joshua Richardson, and Crystal Leanne Crawley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Monday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108.
Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of Glenn Street Baptist Church.
