Marvin Ellis Stanley, 89, of Prosperity, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Winston C. Stanley, Sr. and Adele Johnson Stanley. He retired after 35 years from Columbia Cooling and Heating and after retirement, worked for the Newberry Recycling Center for 13 years. Mr. Stanley was a United States Army veteran and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a Mason and Shriner. He loved fishing, and the South Carolina Gamecocks. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going out to eat.
He is survived by his wife, Mozelle Werts Stanley; a step-son, Joey E. Werts (Melody) of Prosperity; a step-daughter, Linda Werts Lever (Curtis) of Newberry; a sister, Carolyn Campbell of Columbia; step-grandchildren, Cody Lever (Karley), Michael Bouknight (Becky), Trena Robertson, Hali Griffith (Seth), and Rachel Bowles (Philip); a special niece, Scarlett Atkinson (Paul). He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Robinson Stanley; brothers, W.C. Stanley, Jr., James Stanley, Billy Stanley, and Larry Stanley; a sister, Ramona Peake; and a step-daughter, Teresa Rea.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Monte Osborne. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service.
