Mary Nell Bowers

Mary Nell Bowers, 91, of Little Mountain, passed away at her home on Monday, October 16, 2023.

Mary Nell was born in Prosperity to the late Clyde and Esoline Hartman.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Carlton “Bo” Bowers, a grandson, Brad Sanders, a sister, Reba Hartman, brother, Hubert (Lib) Hartman and a sister-in-law, Georgia Crouch.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Sanders (Jim) and Audrey Caldwell (Hank Bufkin); grandsons, Chris Sanders, Jason Caldwell (Amy) and Matt Caldwell (Hilary) and great-grandchildren, Hayden, Riley, Andrew and Austen Caldwell.

Mary Nell was employed by Damon Manufacturing for many years and retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Mountain where she was a member of the Happy Mountaineers. She and her husband delivered meals to many of the shut-ins in the community for many years through the Newberry County Council on Aging.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 – 2:30 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023 in the Holy Trinity Life Center.  The service will follow at 3:00 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, PO Box 186, Little Mountain, SC 29075 or a charity of one’s choice.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Edwards, Hayden Caldwell, Charles Frick, Randy Suber, David Bush, Billy Caldwell, Christopher Corley and Monte Bowers.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Happy Mountaineers.
