Mary Edith Swygert Bedenbaugh, 92, of Prosperity, widow of Willie Lindsey Bedenbaugh, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at White Oak Manor.

Born on August 26, 1921, in White Rock, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Quincy and Georgia Anna Bouknight Swygert. She had worked at Old School Manufacturing and retired from Crocker's Clothing, was a former member of the Prosperity Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Newberry County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. Mrs. Bedenbaugh was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she was involved with the Sunday School, the Week Day Church School, Vacation Bible School, Margaret Hawkins Circle and the New Horizons.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Bernie) Pommier, Judy Moore, Lynn (Steve) Koon, Larry (JoAnn) Bedenbaugh, Dean (Cindy) Bedenbaugh all of Prosperity and Donna (Larry) Dooley of Columbus, GA; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Bedenbaugh was predeceased by a son-in-law, Albert R. “Sonny” Moore, a grandson, Jeffrey Heyward Fellers, brothers, T. R. Swygert, W.H. Swygert, Cecil H. Swygert, J. O. Swygert and Johnny Swygert and sisters, Salley Swygert, Orrie Belle Harmon, Vera Swygert and Catherine Yenny.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, April 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jason Schafer. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church Sign Fund, 4056 St. Luke's Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127, Generations of Batesburg, 111 Generations Blvd, Batesburg, SC 29006 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 110 Ministry Drive, Irmo, SC 29063.

Active pallbearers will be Andy Moore, Jimmy Moore, Paul Moore, David Moore, Will Koon, Danny Rosenburg, Will Dominick, Alan McCollum, Ian Dooley, Patrick Dooley, Adam Bedenbaugh, Alex Bedenbaugh and Eric Alonso

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Horizons.
