Mary Carroll Lipscomb Halfacre, 88, of Newberry, widow of Coleman Halfacre, died August 31, 2016 at White Oak Manor.

Born on May 10, 1928, in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Mable Armstrong Lipscomb. While in High School she worked at McCroy's Dime Store and later at Belk Department Store. She also worked for Bell South and later as a book keeper for Mr. John Billingsley. In her later years, she enjoyed preparing income taxes. She was a graduate of Newberry College and was a devoted member of the Church of God International. She enjoyed exercising, collecting coins and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by a son, Ron Halfacre (Theresa) of Newberry; daughters, Rhonda Koon (Kirksey) and Mary Angela Leopard both of Newberry; a sister, Juanita Lipscomb Beltz (Lonnie) of Chester; a brother, Tommy Lipscomb (Zoila) of Prosperity; grandchildren, Casey Smith (Jolene), Jessie Smith (Jill), Heather Morrison (James), Luke Leopard, and Maleah Kesler (Shaun); 9 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Owens Lipscomb, Willie Mae Lipscomb, and Inga Crayne Lipscomb. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Kathy Ann Halfacre, brothers, Broadus Lipscomb, Gene Lipscomb, and Garrett Lipscomb and brother-in-law, Tom Halfacre (Myrtis) and sisters-in-law, Ethel Derrick (Alonzo).

The family would like to thank Dr. Carroll Pinner, Dr. Thomas Bradberry, Dr. Michael Bernardo, Laura Odom, the staff of White oak Manor, and the staff of Newberry County Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 am Saturday, September 3, 2016 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. The family will be at the home of Rhonda and Kirksey Koon, 1267 Halfacre Road. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Church of God International, 3900 Timms Street, Tyler, TX 75701 or to a charity of one's choice.
