Mary Hawkins

Mary Boland Hawkins, 88, of Newberry, widow of Clarence M. “Hawk” Hawkins, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at McCall Hospice House of Simpsonville.

Born on September 5, 1923, in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late B. Dell and Anna Rebecca Cromer Boland. She was retired from Greenwood Mills-Joanna Plant # 14 where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She worked for Bi-Lo after retirement for twelve years. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of O'Neal Street United Methodist and the Newberry Council on Aging.

She is survived by a grandson, Stuart (Angie) Hawkins of Greenville; great-granddaughters, Kelly and Haley Hawkins; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Melvin) Mooney of Greenwood and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by her son, C. Teddy Hawkins and seven sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 19, 2012, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Plemmons. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be Jason Boozer, Wayne Boozer, Gordon Frick, Andy Rowe, Dell Rowe and Larry Sisk.
