Mary Summer Mathis

Mary Summer Mathis, 95, of Prosperity, widow of W.L. Mathis, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on November 4, 1919, in Pomaria, she was a daughter of the late William D. Summer, Sr. and Mattie Berley Summer. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Grace Sease Sunday School Class, the Dorcas Eve L.C.W. Circle, and the Leisure Hour Group; she was also a member of the Iris Garden Club.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by a son, David L. Mathis and wife Sherron of Lexington; a brother, W.D. Summer, Jr. and wife Mertice of Cayce; a grandson, Steven L. Mathis and wife Heather; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Leola Johnston Eargle and Willie Mae Eargle and a grandson, Jonathan D. Mathis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 24,2015 at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Michael Price. Interment will follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the fellowship hall of Grace Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.
