Mattie Wise

Mattie Mae Richardson Collins Wise, 74, of Silverstreet, widow of J.W. Wise, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on October 22, 1942, in Marion County, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Helen Causey Richardson. She was a member of Saluda River Bible Hour and had worked as a nursing assistant. Mrs. Wise loved to fish, cook, gardening in her flowers and making “things.” She would be considered a very determined individual.

She is survived by her companion, Gene Durden; a son, Mickey Collins of Lancaster; daughters, Patricia Powell of Johnsonville, Carolyn (Eddie) Elston of Spartanburg, Denise (Chuck) Lawrimore of Hemingway; sisters, Betty (Palmer) Cook of Lancaster, Sandra (Terry) Pound of Swansea, Glenda Bolyn of Summerville, Deloris (Benjie) Tanner of Johnsonville, Janice Richardson of Marion, Kathy (Wyman) Owens of Marion; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Abrams and a brother, Bo Richardson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Saluda River Resort. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
