Melissa Stuck Heaps, 46, of Columbia, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on November 4, 1967, in Columbia, she was a daughter of Cynthia Lindler Stuck and the late Arlen Wessinger Stuck. She was a graduate of Mid Carolina High and the University of South Carolina. She was a substitute teacher at Oak Pointe Elementary and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pomaria.
She is survived in addition to her mother, Cynthia L. Stuck of Little Mountain by her husband, Frank Heaps; a son, Christopher Davison Heaps and a sister, Kelly Stuck (Jay) Bobo of Memphis TN.
Melissa loved music, reading, animals and working with children. Reading to children at Oak Pointe and working with the kids in the A-Team were some of her favorite things to do. She especially loved reading to her son, taking nature walks with him and watching him play soccer.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Derald Edwards and Rev. Sheila Rogers. The family will receive friends at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Memorials may be made in Melissa's honor to the Media Center at Oak Pointe Elementary, 1 River Bottom Road, Irmo, SC 29063 or to the Humane Society, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209.
