Melvin "Pete" Meetze

Melvin Eugene “Pete” Meetze, 78, of Pomaria, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at Richland Heart Hospital.

Mr. Meetze was born on July 22, 1938 in Newberry County, a son of the late C.J. “Moses” and Frances Erline Shealy Meetze. Mr. Meetze had retired after 30 years from the S.C. Highway Department. He was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where he was an active member of the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class. He was a 1957 graduate of Pomaria High School and a member of Woodmen Life Chapter 1054. Mr. Meetze enjoyed scouting and was heavily active in Pack 76 and received numerous awards and recognitions.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Allen Meetze; sons, James Patrick “Pat” Meetze and Scott Allen (Marsha) Meetze of Pomaria; grandsons, Ethan and Benjamin Meetze; sister-in-law, Cathy Meetze and nieces and nephews. Mr. Meetze was predeceased by brothers, Howard Earl and Floyd Meetze.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 76 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 622 Hope Station Road, Pomaria, SC 29126 or to the St. Philip's Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Meetze, Luke Meetze, Jacob Meetze, Joshua Meetze, David Meetze, Bart McEntire, Joey Smith and Bill Hester.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class, Pomaria High School Class of 1957, Dr. C. W. Hendricks, Dr. Carroll Pinner, Dr. Ben Pinner and Dr. John Ferguson.
