Michael Chase Chappell, Sr., 69, of Pomaria, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on September 18, 1939 in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Adolpho Raymond and Mary Frances Woodle Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, was retired from International Paper and was former owner with his father of Prosperity Lumber Company. He was a former member of the Air National Guard having served tours in Norway and Spain. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he was a former Adult Sunday School Teacher having taught for forty plus years, was a former member and president of the Church Council and was a lay preacher. Mr. Chappell loved woodworking and target shooting.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Graham Chappell; sons, Dr. Michael C. (Sheila) Chappell, Jr. of Travelers Rest and Mark E. (Sharon) Chappell of Pomaria; a daughter, Pastor Melissa A. Chappell of Pomaria; sisters, Clair C. White of Darlington and Mary Ann Chappell of Prosperity; grandchildren, Chase, Jarred and Caleb Chappell; a number of nieces and a nephew.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
