Mildred Brooks

Mildred Brooks, 89, of Newberry, widow of Frank C. Brooks, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, September 30, 2013.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Richland County on July 1, 1924, to the late Lawrence Frederick Derrick, Sr. and Lillie Huffstetler Derrick. She was a member of the Joanna Church of God.

She is survived by sons, Donald Brooks, of Joliet, IL and Kenneth Brooks of Newberry; daughters, Claudia Wise and Lynn (Richard) Shealy both of Newberry; sisters, Floy Brooks of Coronaca, Marlene Moore and Frances (James) Wicker both of Newberry; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by brothers, Grady, James and Fred Derrick and sisters, Dorothy Brooks and Faye Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, October 3, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Gene Wooten. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Joanna Church of God.

Active pallbearers will be Andrew Crane, Todd Crane, Jason Jones, Brent Koon, Austin Lawson and Andre Sloan.
