Nancy Johnson Brunner

Nancy Elizabeth Smith Johnson Brunner, 91, of Newberry, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. 

Born on March 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert Clifton and Beulah Lucille Elrond Smith. Mrs. Brunner was retired from Shakespeare. She was an active member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where she was a devoted choir member, a member of the WMU and the hostess and teller committees. She had previously played in the handbell choir and taught Sunday school and was a former Sunday School Superintendent. Mrs. Brunner had been a member of the Newberry Community Choir. 

As a resident of Springfield place for the past three years she served on the Welcome Committee. 

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Thomas) Horn; grandchildren, Melissa (Keith) Dayton, Candice (Chris) Coppock, Allen (Jodi) Horn, Justin (Mary Leigh) Horn, Steven (Amanda) Horn and Jeramy Johnson; great-grandchildren, Elliot Horn, Madison Horn, Brianna Dayton, Andrew Horn, Evan Horn, Rayden Dayton, Logan Dayton, Alexander Horn, Cassidy Johnson, Madison Coppock and Catherine Coppock; a daughter-in-law, Janet LaCons Johnson, a devoted friend, Babette Alderman; a nephew who was like a grandson, Jonathan (Katie) Smith; a niece, Katie Smith and great-nephew, Eli Smith and great-niece, Ava Smith. 

Mrs. Brunner was twice married, first to the late James Belton Johnson and secondly, to the late Thomas Brunner. She was also predeceased by sons, James Johnson and Jeffery Johnson and brothers, Ernest Smith and A.D. Smith. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 30, 2024, at Glenn Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Stott and the Rev. Camden Bagwell. Burial will be in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Woodruff. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church.  

Memorials may be made to Glenn Street. Baptist Church, 300 Glenn Street, Newberry, SC 29108. 

Active pallbearers will be Justin Horn, Steven Horn, Allen Horn, Jeramy Johnson, Andrew Horn and Evan Horn.
