Nan Oxner Cain, 79, of Kings Creek Road, Newberry, died Monday, December 23, 2013, at her home.

She was born on July 26, 1934, in the Mount Bethel Garmany area of Newberry County. Nan was the daughter of the late Malcolm Alan Oxner and Eva Pearl Koon Oxner. Nan was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to cook, travel, crochet, sew, paint and be with family and friends. Her crocheted baby blankets, toys and other items are treasured by family and friends.

Nan was an excellent cook. Many meals were enjoyed around her table by family and friends. No matter what time friends came by her home, she always had cake, cookies and candy to enjoy or she gave them some to take home. She was often asked to make cakes and cookies for community dinners. Nan and her mother, Pearl Oxner, catered for the Kiwanis Club for many years.

She was a lifelong member of Lebanon United Methodist Church, Mt. Bethel Garmany Community Center, a member of the “Smiling Swingers' square dancing club and The Red Hat Society.

Nan's life was full of love and laughter. She was always ready to listen and if you asked, she would let you know what she thought you should do. Nan and her grandson, Hector, loved to go to lunch and talk to everyone they would see and to catch up with friends. She was known for wearing hats with guinea feathers and she loved the color red.

She is loved and will be missed.

She is survived by her sons, John C. “Johnny” (Susan) Wilson of Whitmire; Philip T. (Lindy) Wilson, Kenneth A. (Catherine) Wilson and Bruce W. (Faith) Wilson all of Newberry; a daughter, Eva Nanette (Juan) Ramon Castro of Newberry; a brother, George (Lou) Oxner of Whitmire; a sister-in-law, Sandra Counts Oxner of Whitmire; grandchildren, Sean (Meridith) Wilson, Tracy (Neely) Page, Quinton (Miranda) Wilson, Theresa (Carl) Turner, Ashley Wilson, Gabrielle Helms, Hector Wilson, Matthew Workman, Amanda-Pearl (Jeff) Mazza, Brittany (Brad) Rikard, and 16 great-grandchildren; niece, Dawn Oxner Christopher of Montgomery, TX and nephews, Randy (Michelle) Oxner of Greenwood and Jeffrey Oxner of Atlanta.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Cain, brother, Bobbie Alan Oxner, daughter-in-law, Sally Ruff Wilson and son-in-law, Donnie E. Workman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, December 26, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Bruce and Faith Wilson, 567 Kings Creek Road, Newberry and will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 9771-A Southern Pine Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273.

Active pallbearers will be Nan's grandchildren, Sean Wilson, Tracy Page, Quinton Wilson, Theresa Turner, Ashley Wilson, Gabrielle Helms, Hector Wilson, Matthew Workman, Amanda Mazza and Brittany Rikard.
