Nathan R. Yon

Nathan Richard Yon, 39, of Newberry, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Born on November 9, 1973, in Anderson he was the son of the Rev. William G. Yon, Jr. and Jennie Auten Yon. He was a graduate of Whitmire High School, Newberry College and Columbia College. Mr. Yon also took courses at Converse College, Furman University, Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. He was an entrepreneur and an educator who was presently the Director of the South Carolina Science Academy which was to open in August. He was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship in Whitmire.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen Del Rosario Yon; his parents, Rev. and Mrs. William Yon of Whitmire; a sister, Melissa Yon Jenkins of Jacksonville, FL and faithful canine companion, Eli.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, May 19, 2013, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by his father, the Rev. William G. Yon, Jr. and Mr. Daniel Rendelman. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, SC. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 – 2:45 pm at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be James Ross, Cory Ross, Lee Boggs, Mark Boggs, Daniel Bowman, Aaron Elgin, Chris Hughes and Lee Hughes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sen. Jim Lander, Rep. Walt McLeod, Mr. Don Tomlin, Mr. Danny Shaw, Dean Emanuel Watson and the members of the SC Science AcademyBoard.
